  Captain Michael W. Leggett was born in Sun Valley, California and raised in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  He was commissioned in Fort Benning Georgia, through Army Officer Candidate School as a Second Lieutenant into the Military Police Corps in 2008.  Key assignments include Platoon Leader, 92nd Military Police Company; Platoon Leader, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 40th Engineer Battalion; Battalion Training Officer, 40th Engineer Battalion; Executive Officer, Charlie Company 701st Military Police Battalion; Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 40th Military Police Battalion (Detention) and Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Kansas.

  Additionally, Captain Leggett deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 40th Engineer Battalion as a Platoon Leader.

  Among Captain Leggett’s Captain Leggett’s awards and decorations are the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with 1 Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal and the German Armed Marksmanship Badge – Schutzenschnur (Bronze).

  Captain Leggett has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science & History with a Minor in Sports Management from Warner Southern College.  He also has a Master’s in Business Administration from Webster University and is currently pursuing a Master's in Higher Education from Louisville. His Captain Leggett’s military education includes, Military Police Captains Career Course, Military Police Officer Basic Course, Basic Officer Leader’s Course I and II, Officer Candidate School, and Modern Army Combative Program Level I.  He is also a Certified Corrections Manager through the American Correctional Association.  ​
