Captain Jonathon L. Heller was born and raised in South Dakota. He enlisted in the Army in 2000 as a signal Soldier and received his commissioned through the Saint Mary's ROTC program at San Antonio as a Chemical Officer in 2010. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer information Systems from The University of the Incarnate Word. He completed a branch transfer to the Signal Corps in 2013.
He has held numerous company and staff positions to include: Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, 62nd Chemical Company, Ft Lewis; S6, 4-7 Cavalry Regiment, Korea; S1, S4, S6 and Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-4 General Support Aviation Battalion and Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Kansas.
His awards and decorations include: Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation (1OLC), Global War on Terror Expeditionary and Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (4 Stars), Army Service Ribbon and Army Overseas Service Ribbon.
